विश्व का भूगोल - भूकंप एवं भूकम्पीय तरंगें || Geography of World - Earthquake and Seismic waves

Energy is expelled due to the internal and external forces of the earth. This process produces waves. All these propagate in different directions and produce vibrations on the earth. It is known as 'earthquake' . In practical language, the vibration of the earth due to natural phenomena is called earthquake. But sometimes earthquakes also occur as a result of human actions.
Example - Earthquake originated by falling roofs of underground mines, origin of earthquake by nuclear inspection etc. Energy waves are generated from the 'origin of earthquake' or 'earthquake origin' .
Earthquake waves arrive first on 'epicenter' . The epicenter is located just above the center of origin or at an angle of 90 degrees. A line joining points of magnitude similar to earthquakes on the Earth's surface is called 'isomorphic line' . The study of earthquakes is called 'seismology' . Before the earthquake, the amount of radon gases in the atmosphere begins to increase. As a result, an increase in the amount of red gas indicates an earthquake in that area.

(Seismic waves can be divided into two parts.) -

(Geological waves)
(Surface waves)

It includes P waves and S waves.

P waves first occur after the earthquake originates. They move around from their point of origin. P waves are first experienced on the Earth's surface. They are also known as 'primary waves' . They are longitudinally similar to sound waves. These waves move in solid, liquid and gas in all three mediums. The velocity of these waves decreases in solid, liquid and gas respectively. P waves have the fastest speed and the lowest intensity.

S waves reach the earth's surface after L waves. For this reason they are also called 'secondary waves' or 'secondary waves' . The speed of these waves is less than P and greater than L. Their intensity is greater than P and less than L. S waves are transverse like light waves. They can only move in solid medium.

(L waves are included in this.)

L waves are also called 'love wave' . These waves are named after the scientist 'Edward Huff Love' . They have the lowest speed. Therefore, L waves appear only after P and S on the surface of the Earth. The intensity of these waves is higher than P and S. They are most destructive.

The study of seismology shows that earthquakes originate in the form of P, L and S waves. After the earthquake, first P is followed by S and finally L waves. The speed of seismic waves is directly related to the density of the material. The density of seismic waves increases as the density of the Earth's inner layers is higher than that of the surface. In the inner layers of the Earth, the speed of the P and S waves increases till the 'Gutenberg discontinuity'. After this, the S waves begin to dissipate and there is a sudden decrease in the speed of the P waves. Because the material of 'outer core' is in a fluid state and S waves can only move in solid medium. The P waves in the outer core have 'reflection' and 'rotation' but once they reach the inner core, the speed of the P waves starts to increase again. The reason for this is the solid state of the material of the inner core and excessive pressure. L waves can only move on the surface. Hence it is the most destructive.

The region of the Earth where seismic waves are not recorded by seismographers is called the 'shadow zone' of seismic waves. Therefore, seismic waves are not transmitted in this region. Both the P and S waves move at all places within 105 ° from the epicenter of the earthquake. In contrast, there are no waves between 105 ° to 145 °. Hence this region is the shadow region for both waves. After 145 ° P waves begin to reappear. But S waves start disappearing here. Hence, between 105 ° to 145 ° there is also a strip of shadow region around the earth. This is called 'the shadow region of seismic waves' . The reason for formation of seismic shadow region is the tendency of P and S waves. The interior of the Earth is in a fluid and solid state, so the speed of P waves is slower in the fluid parts. S waves dissipate in the fluid part. It is noteworthy that the shadow area of S waves is higher than that of P waves.

Earthquakes occur as a result of natural actions. In addition, many times earthquakes also occur due to human-caused reasons. There are some other causes of earthquake origin as well.

(Following are the natural causes of earthquake genesis) -

Volcanic activity and earthquake action are interrelated. Earthquakes are also commonly associated with volcanic activity. The intensity of this earthquake depends on the action of the volcano itself. But it is not necessary that volcanoes occur along with all earthquakes.

Earthquakes are experienced by the spread of gases under the crust. When rainwater reaches the bottom of the crust, due to the excessive heat in the interior of the earth, its volume changes due to the change in gas and vapor and it starts moving upwards. Earthquakes also occur because of this.

Geological disturbances and folds occur due to geological movements. The main reason for this is stress-relieving and compression forces. Stressors are formed by force, while compression force causes the process of folding and injection. Earthquakes occur as a result.

The terrain is in a dynamic state, made of rigid plates. These creative, destructive and protective plates support the frontiers of earthquake events.

(Following are the human-caused causes of earthquake genesis) -

Human beings do a lot of mining to meet their needs. This includes fossil fuels and other mining. It also causes earthquakes. Earthquakes arise from the extraction of geologic water. The construction of dams leads to destruction of the crust. As a result earthquakes occur. Apart from all these reasons, nuclear explosions and underground nuclear tests etc. are also important factors in earthquake generation. Therefore, we should use nature frugally and be prepared in advance for natural disasters like earthquakes.

(Other causes of earthquake origin are as follows) -

Many times there is a 'meteorite' on the Earth's surface. Earthquakes also occur because of this. Under the rotation or rotation of the Earth, stir is also created by the impact of other celestial bodies on the Earth. As a result, earthquakes occur.

(Major types of earthquakes)

(Earthquakes can be classified into three types based on the depth of the earthquake origin.) -

(Shallow Origin Center Earthquake)
(Medium Earthquake Center Earthquake)
(Earthquake of the deepest origin center)

Earthquakes whose origin is at a depth of 0 to 50 km. Earthquakes of shallow origin centers are called . These earthquakes are relatively more destructive. Earthquakes that have an original earthquake at a depth of 50 to 250 km are called 'Earthquake of Medium Cause Center' . An earthquake with its origin at a depth of 250 to 700 kilometers or more is called an earthquake of deep origin. Earthquakes with shallow origin centers are of low magnitude while earthquakes with deep provenance centers are of high magnitude.

(Earthquakes can be divided into several forms depending on the cause of origin. These are the following) -

Earthquakes resulting from tectonic action are called 'normal earthquakes' or 'tectonic earthquakes' . Such earthquakes are more frequent.

The earthquake generated by the volcanic action is called 'volcanic earthquake' .

An earthquake caused by falling under the roofs of underground mines in mining areas is called 'Collaps earthquake' .

An earthquake caused by a nuclear or chemical explosion is called an 'explosive earthquake' .

An earthquake caused by the breakdown of large dams is called 'Dam borne earthquake' or 'artificial earthquake' .

Earthquake waves are measured through 'seismograph' . This instrument uses the 'Richter Scale' to measure the intensity of an earthquake. It is also called 'Richter Magnitube Test Scale' . Seismic waves are measured on a Richter scale ranging from 0 to 10. The magnitude of the earthquake increases by 10 points per 1 increase in this scale. The energy that is emitted during an earthquake increases by about 32 times per rising point. The Richter scale scale was discovered by a scientist named 'Charles Richter' . Hence it is called 'Richter Scale' based on their name. It is a mathematical measure that runs on the basis of 'Log' . In addition to the Richter scale, the modified 'Merkeli Scale' is also used to measure the intensity, intensity and shock of an earthquake. Development of Merkeli Scale 'G. A scientist named Merkeli '. This scale is named after them. In this, an earthquake is measured based on the damage caused by the earthquake, rather than its intensity. This scale is rarely used, as it is considered less scientific than Richter. This is an experience oriented scale. And it measures from 1 to 12.

(Following are the factors that affect the intensity of earthquake) -

As the intensity of the waves increases, the intensity of the earthquake increases and decreases as it decreases.

As the density of matter increases, the speed of earthquake waves also increases. In a rocky area with high density, earthquake intensity is also high. In contrast, the marsh area has a relatively low earthquake intensity.

The deeper the earthquake origin, the higher the intensity of the earthquake. Therefore, earthquakes in areas with lower quake depths produce more destruction than earthquakes of deep and moderate earthquake origin.

In areas where trees and plants and natural vegetation (forests etc.) are available in excessive quantity, the intensity of earthquake is less. As a result, the risk of destruction is also reduced. But as a result of the action of decomposition , there is chaos in the equilibrium. This increases seismic events and intensity and causes more destruction.

(Earthquake affected areas or boxes) -

About 63% of the world's earthquakes occur in this region. It can be divided into two branches - the first branch extends from the Kamchatka Peninsula of Asia to Kyrail and Japan, the Philippines and the Eastern Islands, and the second branch reaches Chile, Peru, Alaska via Central America. In these areas, earthquakes are directly related to the convergence of plates, erosion and volcanic activity. There are three types of deep, shallow and medium seismic zones on these areas.

About 21% of the world's earthquakes occur in this region. These earthquakes are caused by the convergence of Plato. They are delusional and equilibrium. The region extends to Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Iran and North America, China and Myanmar. Areas affected by the earthquake include the Himalayas and Myanmar hills of India and the minor areas of Europe. It is also called the 'Alpine Box'.

Generally, there are very few earthquakes in this box. In these areas, earthquakes arise due to the formation of conversion fault from erosion and erupting volcanic eruptions. The belt extends from Iceland in the north to Bowett Island in the south. Most of the earthquakes in this region occur in areas close to the Vishwaktha line.

Apart from all these areas, earthquakes occur in some other areas of the earth. Examples are Indian Ocean belt, East African belt etc.

Earthquakes cause great loss of human life and property. But apart from this, earthquakes also provide many benefits to humans.

Cities are destroyed due to earthquake and there is a lot of loss of life and property and property. Infrastructure eg bridges, railway tracks, buildings etc. are broken and destroyed. Other natural disasters also occur due to earthquakes. Accidental accidents such as landslides, floods, fires, etc. take birth. Many times, due to earthquake in the sea part, a disaster like tsunami also arises. This causes very large scale destruction in our coastal areas.

Deep troughs are formed due to earthquakes. This causes natural water to accumulate and lakes are formed. Due to seismic actions in the coastal parts of the ocean, the creeks provide a suitable location for natural harbors. New ground is formed due to volcanic earthquake. Due to the pressure and corruption caused by earthquakes, valuable and rare mineral substances come to the surface from the interior of the earth. Seismic waves provide information about the internal structure of the Earth.
