भारत की प्राचीन मुद्राओं का इतिहास history of India's ancient currencies
प्राचीन भारत में कुछ मुद्राओं का प्रचलन था। ये मुद्राएं प्रायः सिक्कों के रूप में चलती थी। इन मुद्राओं का नाम नीचे दी गई सूची के अनुसार था। इन्हीं मुद्राओं पर आधारित वर्तमान में कई तरह के मुहावरे एवं लोकोक्तियां भी प्रचलित है। आइए एक प्राचीन मुद्राओं के नाम जानते हुए इनके तत्कालीन मूल्य को समझते हैं।Some currencies were in vogue in ancient India. These currencies often used to be in the form of coins. These currencies were named according to the list below. Many types of idioms and proverbs based on these currencies are also free prevalent. Let us understand the name of ancient currencies and understand their current value of that time.
प्राचीन समय में प्रचलित मुद्राएँ-
(Ancient Currencies)
(1) फूटी कौड़ी (Footi Penny)
(2) कौड़ी (Penny)
(3) दमड़ी (Damdi)
(4) धेला (Dhela)
(5) पाई (Pai)
(6) पैसा Paisa)
(7) आना (Aana)
(8) रुपया (Rupee)

मुद्राओं का मूल्य ( Values of Currencies)
(1) 3 फूटी कौड़ी = 1कौड़ी
(2) 10 कौड़ी = 1 दमड़ी
(3) 2 दमड़ी = 1धेला
(4) 1धेला = देढ़ (1.5) पाई
(5) 3पाई = 1पैसा (पूर्व काल में)
(6) 4पैसा = 1 आना
(7) 16 आना =1 रुपया (पूर्व काल में)
टीप-
(अ) बाद के काल में 'आना' का मूल्य इस तरह से हो गया।
सवा छःपैसा (6.25 पैसा) = 1 आना
4 आना = 25 पैसा
16 आना = 1 रुपया (100 पैसा)
(ब) पूर्व काल में
1 रुपया = 16 आना
1 रुपया = 64 पैसा
1 रुपया = 128 धेला
1रुपया = 192 पाई
1 रुपया = 256 दमड़ी
इस तरह से अलग-अलग मुद्राओं का अन्य मुद्राओं में मान निकाला जा सकता है।
(स) 'टका' बांग्लादेश की मुद्रा का नाम है भारत के ₹1 के बदले बांग्लादेश के 1.14 टका प्राप्त हो सकता है।
प्राचीन मुद्राओं से निर्मित लोकोक्तियाँ/मुहावरे
(1) चमड़ी जाए पर दमड़ी ना जाए।
अर्थ- धन के लिए रूप-रंग (शरीर) को निछावर कर देना।
(2) सोलह आने सच होना।
अर्थ- कोई बात पूर्णता सत्य होना।
(3) फूटी कौड़ी न होना।
अर्थ- कुछ भी धन न होना।
(4) धेले भर का काम न करना।
अर्थ- कुछ भी काम ना करना।
(5) पाई पाई का हिसाब रखना।
अर्थ- धन का एक-एक मूल्य का हिसाब रखना।
(6) दो कौड़ी का आदमी।
अर्थ- कम इज्जत वाला इंसान।
(7) लाख टके की बात।
अर्थ- बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण बात होना।
